How to live a happy life ... In the light of Quran Part:3

Written by Bint-e-saeed 13 Jul,2013

Summary of part 1 & 2

  1. 1.Always remember Allah

Remember Allah while standing, sitting, eating, sleeping and lying, definitely he will respond you. For all this yaqeen is so important which comes from inner of your heart. This is the way He wants you and me to be successful in this world and hereafter. If you’ve a connection like this with Almighty nothing in the world can bother you.

2. being thankful to Allah:

Allah tells us in the Quran that if a slave is grateful, He has promised that He will increase the blessings that have been already given to him but if the slave denies the blessings, the punishment from his Lord is severe. So if we want to have more blessings and pleasures we should be thankful to Allah all time.

3. Turning to Allah in sincere repentance:

“Man was created weak “

(Surah Al-Nisa, 28)

How many times do images of some of your past actions make you uncomfortable and you think over it and feel ashamed. And if you are given chance to do that again then surely you will not make those mistakes again. The problem with human being is that they can never ever reach a state in which they will not commit sins. So Allah has ordained regular repentance or “istaghfar”… the act of seeking forgiveness from Allah. The word “taubah” in Arabic literally means to turn. ‘Taubah’ is a u-turn process, it means don’t go that way you were before. One thing keep in mind that Allah doesn’t want that taubah that a person one times ask for forgiveness and the second time committing the same sin.

Hazrat Anas bin Malik narrated:

I heard the messenger of Allah said;

Allah the Almighty said: “O son of Adam. So long as you call upon me and ask of me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the cloud of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of me. I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you come to me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face me, ascribing no partner to me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it”.

(Al-tirmizi, no. 3608)

Sincere repentance fills your heart with joy and gives you inner contentment which you never felt before.

“O believers! Turn toward Allah, every one of you, so that you may be successful”.

((Quran 24:31)

The prophet Muhammad said, “The one who repents from sin is like the one who never sinned”

(Ibne maja no. 3240)

Hazrat Abu hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) reported that the holy prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Allah will turn towards anyone who turns in repentance before the sun rises from the place it set” (Muslim)

“Ask your Lord for forgiveness and then turn in repentance to him.”(Quran 11:3)

Benefits of repentance:

Imam Ibne qayyim (R.U.A) mentions certain benefits of repentance.

  1. 1.Repentance is the most noble and beloved form of obedience in the eyes of Allah. He loves those who repents and it is because of His love for His creation that He tests them with sins so that He may shower His blessings and favors upon them after every repent.
  2. 2.Repentance has a status that no other form of worship has. This is why Allah is extremely happy when a servant repents just as a traveler is happy when he finds his lost mount in the desert.
  3. 3.This pleasure of Allah has a great impact on the heart of the one repenting; hence the repenting person reaches the status of being amongst the beloved through his repentance.
  4. 4.Repentance brings about humbleness that is not easily acquired through other forms of worship. Holy prophet (peace be upon him) said, “the sign of the people of the hell Is mostly because of the postponement of repenting (taubah and astaghfar)

Holy prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“Nothing is more favorable to Allah than a male or female repentant believer.”

Signs of repentant:

There are four signs of one who repentant.

  1. 1.He is sincere to Allah in his actions.
  2. 2.He shuns falsehood
  3. 3.He is firmly attached to truth
  4. 4.He is eager to do good

When a believer commits a sin and seeks ‘taubah’ , Allah becomes happy and says “my servant committed a sin and then he came to realize that he has a Lord who holds the sinner responsible and accountable , and also that he has a Lord who forgives the sins if asked for forgiveness ; so let him be forgiven (Subhan Allah )

A person once heard a pious Muslim says that “for the last 30 years I am repenting for a sin and I don’t know how Allah will deal with me regarding it ?

The listener asked; what was your sin?

The pious Muslim said: I used to have a shop in the bazaar. One day I heard that the whole bazaar was burning so I rushed to see my shop. When I reached there a saw that except my shop all other shops were razed to the ground. I said, ‘Alhamdulillah’

(All praise to Allah SWT): but immediately I realized my mistake. How can I call myself a Muslim when I couldn’t feel the loss of my neighbors? That is why I am repenting taubah and istaghfar for that rapse on my part for the last 30 years.

Repentance does not mean being perfect , we can never be perfect since even prophets have at times made mistakes. Repentance means to humbly hope for the mercy of Allah and to fear this judgment while doing the best. One can fulfill divine wishes within the limits of one’s human weaknesses.
